Hi! I’m Sofia and I have been a program facilitator for Evermore for two years. I have learned so much while working with Evermore. During my first few months, I’ve learned to speak up and become more confident with my decisions. It was also important for myself to remember that not every program is going to be perfect. There are going to be days when program does not go as planned and all I can do is address the problem, learn from it and know what to improve on next time. I wouldn’t have been able to do this of course, without the support of Cory, Jenny, Kerris and my co-facilitators.
One of the most fulfilling takeaways from the job are the relationships built within the program. Working at all of three schools from Monday to Thursday has helped me get to know the kids better. However, a memory that stands out to me while working with Evermore was the year Byron and I facilitated the leadership program during the Summer of 2023. It was amusing to see kids from all three schools interact and become closer throughout the summer. I also was able to get to know the kids a little better as we did see each other more often than we did during the school year. Some of the kids from the program have then graduated from grade school and I can’t be any prouder to see them as junior volunteers leading our current participants. Seeing the growth of our participants will always be my greatest motivation and reminder as to why I do what I do.
My main purpose will always be to provide a safe environment for the kids, to make sure that Evermore’s mission and values are upheld and to be someone that the kids can run to when they need someone to listen to, talk to or have fun with. Not only do I strive to be a role model and a leader but also an older sister figure for the kids.
